Country project

Hi Võrok! I have started working on the template box for countries. The template can befound at Template:Country Infobox. It would be good if you could move this to the Võro name equivalent and fix any mistakes that exist there (in terms of Võro words). I'm not sure if Suurusõ perrä (here I meant to say "Area rank") and Rahva hulga perrä (Population rank) are correct. Additionally, is it correct to say things like "Romaania lipp" when referring to the Romanian flag, or does the "Romaania" change its ending (in English it changes to Romanian). Before I start actually implementing this template for all of the countries in Maailma maaq, I would like to ask you a few things.

Firstly, I have translated the following headings in Võro, for each country article. Are they correct:

• Aologu - History
• Poliitiga - Politics
• Luudus - Geography
• Haldusjaotus - Subdivisions
• Majandus - Economy
• Kultuur' - Culture

I would also like to know the Võro words for the following, which I will need for the articles. You can write the Võro equivalent on this page next to each word.

• Demographics
• XYZ is a country in Europe|Asia|Africa|North America|South America
• The names for the months of the year, so I can use it for independence dates (January, February, March, April, May, etc.). I already know that February is radokuu and June is piimäkuu

Suurusõ perrä "Area rank" and Rahva hulga perrä "Population rank" are correct meanings.

Yes, it IS correct to say things like "Romaania lipp" when referring to the Romanian flag, "Austria lipp" (Austrian flag), "Belgiä lipp" (Belgian flag) etc. Most of country names in Võro do not change their ending. But many names (mostly with a consonant at the end of name) do. For example "Afganistan'" (nominative case) - "Afganistani" (genetive case) > "Afganistani lipp". Here is the list of country names which change their endings:

Estonian anthem

Hi. I have redirected Mu isamaa, mu õnn ja rõõm to Mu esämaa, mu ynn' ja ryym, so that at the page "Mu esämaa, mu ynn' ja ryym" there is now both a Võro and Estonian version. This is because I think it's much easier and structured that way, since this is the Võro Wikipedia and not the Estonian Wikipedia, it would've been confusing to have a page just in Estonian. The standard Wikipedia format for national anthems is to have the national anthem in the native language and then translated in the language of the Wikipedia. I have therefore put Estonian first and then the Võro translation. If you like, you can switch them around, so that the Võro is first (especially since the title is in Võro) and then the Estonian is next. But I just think it's better to have both versions on one page rather than have them on separate pages. Ronline 07:17, 24 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi. My summer in Estonia was great - I stayed in Pärnu mostly, with a short stay in Tallinn. It was my first time in Pärnu and I really enjoyed it! As always, Estonia is a really great place to visit. From my first time in Tallinn a few years ago, I was just captivated and have returned there frequently ever since! Next year, I will try to make a visit to the southern part, including Võromaa. Is the Võro language movement active in Estonia? Personaly, I am really interested in it and was wondering what's happening for the Võro language on the local front. What is the county government's reaction to it? It would be good to advertise the Võro Wikipedia to the Võro community in Estonia. I have made a new template at Template:Commons for linking to articles at Wikimedia Commons. This needs to be translated into Võro (well, just translate the phrase "Wikimedia Commons has more media related to:" and then the article name will appear automatically). Yes, Ronline, the Võro movement is quite active in comparision with other Balto-Finnic small languages' movements. But unfortunately it is still too weak to solve the problem of keeping the Võro language alive when language change into Estonian is going on. And Võro (nor entire South Estonian) has still no official recognition as a language. It has some state support as a cultural heritage but there are no serious language policy to save the language. Of course I'll try to find opportunities to advertise Võro Vikipeediä in Võromaa and in whole Estonia. -Võrok 20:06, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

Countries

Hi Võrok! The country template should be changed in the following way, by making a page-defined template for the title of President. For that, the architecture needs to be changed slightly, and I need to know what the name is for "Head of state" and "Head of state type" in Võro. As to the system of writing numbers, I have used the 1,5 and 3,2 type for decimals. Are there any places where this has not been used? In Romania, it's also like this. As to the digit groupings, I will change them from dots to spaces (in Romania, the grouping is 1.000.000 instead of 1 000 000. "Horvaatia" (country) in genitive is the sama as in nominative - "Horvaatia". But the name of the language is "horvaadi kiil'". Yes, I noticed that some of the images are missing, and that's mainly because of poor organisation over at Commons to do with file names. I will try to find the file name on commons so the link is done right, or in some cases I will upload the coat of arms to this Wikipedia. Hi Võrok. Would you be nice and create a "võro-speaking" version of the Babel templates, which could be added, for example, in en:Wikipedia:Babel and fr:Wikipédia:Babel. If you would like to do it, you could start with the English text, as in fr:Wikipédia:Babel/en (except for fr:Template:User en-0, which has a "political" background against English). The 5 levels (native, 4, 3, 2 and 1 could be sufficient, imho, and you could only give the text and say where we have to add the category links inside the text). Well, thank you Võrok. I added the templates on French and English Wikipedias, see fr:Wikipedia:Babel/fiu-vro and en:Wikipedia:Babel#fiu-vro - Võro (Võro)). I just changed the text-size in the left cell: 1.2em for the French templates, and 11pt for the English templates. Lock the wiki?

Hi Võrok. Remember how enthusiastic you were about setting this wiki up? Well... it's been several months now and the Võro Wikipedia 'community' has produced a grand total of 134 articles, the vast majority of which are useless substubs. You seem to be the main editor, if not the only editor, and all you do is turn up occasionally to revert some vandalism. Could you tell the world how you see the future unfolding for this Wikipedia? Are you going to write any useful content? Is there any possibility of getting anyone else involved in the project? I ask because if things go on as they are there is clearly no point in the Wikimedia Foundation hosting this site. If the only editing that is done consists of someone posting linkspam which sits around for ages until you can be bothered to revert it, it would be better if the wiki was locked as soon as possible. If you don't mind, I'll contact the developers and give them the go-ahead to do this in about 48 hours, as anyone can confirm that this is an inactive project. Thanks. Of course we do mind this, Toomas! Võrok has done a great work creating the Võro Wikipedia, but he is not the only editor. I have also written some articles and plan to write some more soon. Of course, it would be great if the project were more active, but let's compare it with other (e.g. Estonian) Wikipedias. If I correctly interprete the statistics, then during the first half year (Aug-Dec 2002) Estonian Wikipedia had 2 editors who wrote 140 articles. Setting a bot bit (or bot flag) for a user means that the changes by the user are no longer visible in Recent Changes (so that they do not get polluted). The changes by bots can also be hidden from a user's watchlist, if he chooses to do that in his preferences. You can create bots through Special:Makebot. It works the same as setting user rights.
